Description

Regis Jesuit High School is seeking an IT Helpdesk Intern to begin in January through approximately September. This is a paid internship, with an hourly rate of $25.00.

The IT Helpdesk Intern supports the Technology Department by assisting with basic technical support tasks for employees, students, and parents. This role is designed as a learning opportunity, providing hands-on experience with user support, hardware and software troubleshooting, and school technology systems under the supervision of experienced IT staff. 

The intern will focus on customer service, documentation, and foundational IT skills while gaining exposure to enterprise IT environments and best practices. 

Essential Job Functions (Responsibilities)


General Responsibilities:

  • Assist with responding to helpdesk tickets, walk-ins, phone calls, and other support requests under supervision.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting support for common hardware, software, and connectivity issues using documented procedures.
  • Escalate complex or unresolved issues to IT staff while clearly documenting steps taken.
  • Assist with user onboarding and offboarding tasks such as account creation, password resets, and access requests under guidance.
  • Learn and support school-approved software and systems.
  • Document solutions, troubleshooting steps, and common issues in the helpdesk knowledge base.
  • Follow IT policies, security standards, and data privacy requirements.
  • Assist with running basic diagnostic tools to help identify technical issues.
  • Help set up and test peripherals such as printers, mobile devices, projectors, displays, and video conferencing equipment.
  • Assist with inventory tracking by labeling devices and updating inventory records
User Support:
  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to users experiencing basic technical issues.
  • Log support requests and resolutions accurately in the helpdesk system.
  • Assist with basic user training on applications, devices, and best practices.
  • Help guide users on proper use of school technology tools.
  • Provide basic audio-visual support for classrooms, meetings, and school events.
  • Assist with new user account setup and orientation as assigned.
Technology Department:
  • Attend IT department meetings and training sessions when appropriate.
  • Shadow IT staff to learn about systems administration, networking, and security concepts.
  • Assist with software installations, updates, and device deployments under supervision.
  • Gain exposure to servers, networking equipment, and system monitoring tools (observation and limited hands-on tasks).
  • Communicate regularly with the supervising IT staff member regarding progress, questions, and learning objectives.
Other:
  • Performs other assignments as given by the Director of IT.
  • Participates in school events, such as faculty/staff retreats, assemblies, meetings, and other events that promote the mission of the school with approval by the Director of IT.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.

 

Requirements (Education, Experience, Required/Preferred Skills)

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a high school, college, or technical program related to IT, computer science, or a related field (or strong interest in IT).
  • Little to no prior professional IT experience required.
  • Basic familiarity with Windows or macOS operating systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) preferred.
  • Interest in learning Active Directory, networking fundamentals, and IT support tools.
  • Strong customer service skills and willingness to help others.
  • Ability to follow instructions, ask questions, and document work clearly.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and eager to learn new technical skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 40 lbs with assistance if needed.
  • Ability to operate computers, peripherals, and basic tools.
  • Availability to work scheduled internship hours; occasional after-hours support may be required with supervision.
