Regis Jesuit High School is seeking a Fine Arts Long-Term Substitute to cover a parental leave from January - April 2026 . This position will be placed on the Faculty Salary Scale, based on education level and years of experience (scale begins at BA, Tier 1: $ 53,463 to MA45, Tier 30: $102,263). We give 1:1 credit for the first ten years of teaching and 1:2 for years over ten, with no maximum until Tier 30. Full benefits are available. While a set of lesson plans will be provided, flexibility and creativity are encouraged—teachers are welcome to adapt lessons to their own expertise and teaching style. The current instructor will provide support prior to maternity leave, including guidance on navigating Canvas, an introduction to the campus, and orientation to classroom equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Teach Ceramics 1, Ceramics 2/3, and Sculpture 2 according to established curriculum goals.
- Provide hands-on instruction in ceramic and sculptural techniques, ensuring student mastery of foundational and advanced skills.
- Support student creativity and encourage innovation, particularly in advanced classes where projects are proposal driven.
- Oversee safe and effective use of classroom tools, kilns, and digital software.
- Foster a studio environment that emphasizes artistic growth, technical skill, and conceptual development.
Course Expectations:
Ceramics 1
- Teach foundational hand-building techniques: slab construction, coil building, and pinch pots.
- Guide students in wedging, carving, piercing, and basic score-and-slip methods.
- Operate and maintain Skutt kilns safely and effectively.
Ceramics 2/3
- Instruct students in advanced wheel throwing techniques, including footing, trimming, and consistent shape manipulation.
- Mentor Ceramics 3 students in proposal-based work, integrating skills from Ceramics 1 and 2 into concept-driven projects.
- Support students in developing artistic independence and expressive depth.
Sculpture 2
- Teach digital sculpting using Rhino and ZBrush (or comparable platforms such as Blender).
- Introduce students to 3D printing processes.
- Provide hands-on training in lost wax casting (steam casting preferred) and welding.
- Ensure students gain proficiency in both digital and physical sculptural techniques.
- Attending assemblies, prayer services, masses, service opportunities
- Modeling Christian values and contributing to forming student values
- Commitment to the life of the school outside the classroom through coaching, advising, and moderating extra-curricular programs
- Proficiency in ceramics, including kiln operations, hand building, and wheel throwing.
- Familiarity with sculptural processes, including welding and casting. (preferred but not required)
- Working knowledge of Rhino, ZBrush, or comparable 3D modeling software.
- Teaching experience at the high school or college level preferred, with the ability to adapt instruction for varying levels of student expertise.
- Strong communication skills, organizational ability, and a commitment to fostering creativity in students.
