Description

Regis Jesuit High School is seeking an Athletic Director to begin the 2022-2023 school year. This is an 11-month contract with a starting salary of $82,000 but commensurate with experience. The position is eligible for full benefits, including health, dental, vision, life and retirement matching. Posting will close on 2/4/2022.

The Athletic Director assists the administration in animating the mission and vision of Regis Jesuit High School by: promoting an excellent high school athletics program characterized by good conduct, leadership and sportsmanship on the part of all athletes and coaches. The Athletic Director is responsible for promoting the school’s mission through effective leadership of the interscholastic and club athletic programs. Catholic, Ignatian formation of student-athletes and coaches is a primary function of the Athletic Director’s role at the school. The Athletic Director creates and maintains an environment where the student-athlete lives out our motto of being student with and for others, develops athletic skills and practices these skills in the context of a team through competition. The Athletic Director collaborates with the Advancement Department on athletic fundraising initiatives and ensures that the athletic department and coaches align with the school fundraising policies. The Athletic Director reports directly to the Assistant Principal for Student Life. The Athletic Director is a representative of the school to the Athletic League.

Essential Job Functions (Responsibilities)

  • Work with the assistant principal for student life to hire effectively and dismissing (when necessary) within the athletic department. Assign coaches, with the Principal’s approval; work with the varsity head coaches to recruit lower level and assistant coaches
  • Partner with the Assistant Principal for Student Life in evaluating and ensuring quality and equity of athletic programming
  • Coordinate all required certifications and training, and ensure that all coaches have completed all necessary paperwork and hiring processes established by the human resources office
  • Evaluate and supervise all head coaches, identifying areas of growth, and following up with annual meetings to assess progress; administer and manage the student perception surveys
  • Evaluate and supervise all athletic trainers, identifying areas of growth, and following up with annual meetings to assess progress
  • Support coaches and teams by attending practices and contests, and provide advice and counsel to coaches, when needed
  • Provide the orientation for all coaches as to the philosophy of a Jesuit athletic program and Athletic Department policies
  • Arrange for all preliminaries to participation in sports such as: physical examinations, parents' permission forms, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records of athletic eligibility (grades, transfer, and behavior), and report to teams on the eligibility of their student-athletes
  • Work with transfer students and their parents on CHSAA paperwork
  • Interface with parents, alumni, and student athletes concerning all athletic matters
  • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of the athletic handbook
  • Administer the school insurance program when it is concerned with the Athletic Department.
  • Assess liability risk, and develop new policies and procedures to minimize that risk
  • Advocates and leads athletics strategic initiatives
  • Partner with the Assistant Principal for Student Life to oversee and manage all budgets within athletics, including the processing of all purchases and deposits
  • Manage and approve all sports schedules
  • Schedule, supervise, and compensate all contest officials and game management personnel (all ticket sellers, ticket takers, score keepers, announcers, and clock operators, etc.)
  • Partner with the Assistant Principal for Student Life in managing games and events, including scheduling supervision
  • Supervise the transportation scheduling for athletics, and act as on-call contact for after-hours support
  • Coordinate with the Parent Club regarding athletic event concession needs
  • Promote positive sportsmanship and fan behavior at contests while conveying expectations and standards of conduct
  • Inspire and infuse school spirit on campus, inviting students, faculty and staff to participate in athletic activities.
  • Work with the Regis Jesuit safety director and the Aurora PD and other sites for use and adequate security at athletic contests
  • Oversee and assist all coaches, parents, and athletes during Regis Jesuit and CHSAA sponsored athletic tournaments/events occurring on the Regis Jesuit campus
  • Coordinate the facility schedules with the Program Manager to accommodate and resolve potential conflicts (finding amenable solutions to the greatest extent possible)
  • Work with the Director of Facilities to ensure preparation and readiness of athletic facilities
  • Ensure compliance with the rules and regulations of CHSAA and the Continental League
  • Manage the athletic information available on the RJHS website
  • Attend meetings with CHSAA, Continental League, Jesuit Schools Network, and lead Regis Jesuit Coaches Meetings at the start of each season
  • Work with the Student Life Logistics Manager to coordinate the athletic awards program and team banquets.
  • Support the mission and philosophy of the school and department
  • Abide by all department and school policies and regulations

Facilities:

  • All athletic facilities, offices, equipment, and usage thereof, with the exception of equipment specifically purchased for Physical Education, will be under the direction of the Athletic Director.
    • Capital Improvements: Capital improvements or changes to be made in the physical development will be mutually considered by the Assistant Principal for Student Life, Chairperson of Physical Education, the Director of Facilities Management and the Athletic Director.
    • Maintenance: The Athletic Director shall see that the proper conditions are maintained for sports by supervising the preparation and maintenance of all fields, courts, dressing rooms, so that they are suitable for use for practice and games.

Requirements (Education, Experience, Required/Preferred Skills)

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college/university
  • Five years working in a high school
  • Experience coaching at the high school level
  • Possess a high level of organizational skills ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tasks at once
  • The ability to work effectively with staff at all levels, displaying a positive attitude, demonstrating cultural proficiency, and exhibiting motivation and drive.
  • Administrative experience

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds, using proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or move around the applicable working environment as needed
  • Ability to travel safely and comfortably around our campus
  • Ability to use a keyboard (or an alternative device) and other office equipment
  • Ability to read information in printed material, on a computer screen (often for extended periods of time) and/or on a mobile device/laptop.
  • This position is classified as an 11-month, Exempt position. Employees in exempt positions are expected to work as many hours as their responsibilities require, which includes evenings and weekends.
