Description

Regis Jesuit High School is seeking a Counselor for the Girls Division.This is a full time position beginning the 2017-2018 school year.

The School Counselor helps all students develop skills in the areas of personal/social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development.

Essential Job Functions (Responsibilities)

  • Working collaboratively with counseling staff to provide a comprehensive guidance program that meets the needs of students in grades 9-12;
  • Providing individual and group counseling services to meet the academic as well as the social/emotional needs of students;
  • Assisting students to develop a five-year (four years of high school plus one year of college) educational plan;
  • Working collaboratively with staff and administration to coordinate all services for students and assisting with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school;
  • Creating, in conjunction with the other counselors, informational programming for parents about such topics as social/emotional issues, preliminary information on preparing for careers, etc.;
  • Communicating with parents in a timely manner including planning, implementing, and providing feedback in group and individual meetings about issues that impact the student;
  • Working closely with all members of the school community regarding the welfare of the student;
  • Assisting teachers and administration with the educational placement of students by using appropriate educational assessment strategies, and assisting student with course selections that are the most challenging and appropriate for graduation requirements and career plans;
  • Consulting with and serving as a resource for teachers, staff, and parents regarding the needs of the student;
  • Creating and coordinating parts of advisement program;
  • Working collaboratively with counseling staff to administer the standardized testing program for the school, accurately interpreting test results, and other student data;
  • Maintaining accurate records to document interactions, interventions, and decisions involving students while maintaining the appropriate policies relating to confidentiality;
  • Referring student to the Learning Services Coordinator and working with students to implement strategies for academic success;
  • Referring students and their parents to community agencies, programs, or specialists as appropriate;
  • Participating in the school-based crisis team and threat assessment team as appropriate;
  • Participating in student retreats, masses, service opportunities and orientation programs;
  • Working collaboratively with counseling staff and administration to determine student needs and to develop and implement programs that meet those needs including the evaluation and revision of the school guidance program;
  • Willing to work with diverse student populations and be an advocate for the student;
  • Serving on committees that are an integral part of the school;
  • Willing to attend outside extra-curricular events and sponsoring events that occur on the RJHS campus;
  • Attending workshops and classes that further your knowledge and help remain current with programs, policies, and practices that meet the needs of students;
  • Becoming part of a team of life-long learners who will serve as a model for our students and will commit to implementing effective school practices.

Requirements (Education, Experience, Required/Preferred Skills)

  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Jesuit education as set forth in Regis Jesuit’s mission statement and the “Profile of the Jesuit High School Graduate at Graduation”;
  • Colorado certification;
  • Masters degree in counseling or be working toward a masters degree, meeting the guidelines stated in the faculty handbook;
  • Extensive experience (preferably 5 years or more) in personal counseling with high school students;
  • Capable of working collaboratively;
  • Able to communicate clearly with students, parents and administration;
  • Willing to be an important part of developing a vision for Regis Jesuit
