The Kitchen Support individual works directly for the Executive Chef and is responsible to ensure all food items are produced and served in accordance with RJ recipe guidelines.
This position will be 20 hours per week when students are present (during school year) with additional hours for special events.

Essential Job Functions (Responsibilities):

  • Helps coordinate activities for food preparation, kitchen and storage areas.

  • Complies with all portion sizes, cooking and warming methods, and quality standards, in accordance with prescribed recipes.

  • Complies with department rules, policies and procedures.

  • Assumes responsibility for quality of products served.

  • Sets up service line with foods, condiments, and garnishments at the start of each shift and restocks as needed.

  • Maintains sanitary work station and kitchen equipment.

  • Handles, stores, and rotates all products properly.

  • Closes the kitchen in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Assists Kitchen Manager to ensure proper accounting of funds and deposits.

  • monitor food production areas for safety and sanitation practices and procedures.

  • Assists with setting up food production line.

  • Assists Kitchen Manager with setting up production cycles, ensuring proper inventory levels are available, and replenishes items as necessary.

  • Performs hands on execution of the line, directing volunteers with food service.

  • Operates P.O.S. terminals and ensures proper accounting of funds and deposits.

  • Has working knowledge of menu, food, and school policy.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Executive Chef and Kitchen Manager.

  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills.

  • Functions as a supportive team member.

Requirements:

  • Must operate in a safe and responsible manner

  • Adhere to Federal, State and Health regulations

  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently to properly support cooking schedules

  • Work cooperatively with other people having ability to work under pressure

  • Observe all school policies and procedures, including attendance

  • Ability to multi-task and work at various paces in order to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Education & Skills:

  • High School Graduate equivalent. Desire two year’s previous experience in high volume cafeteria/dining restaurant.

  • Must be able to proficiently execute all stations on the line and in the kitchen. Computer knowledge is desirable.

  • Physical requirements:

  • Work involves sustained standing, lifting, and carrying of moderately heavy items up to 40 lbs.

Working conditions

  • Work is in a school kitchen environment. Temperatures from hot oven and steamers can cause discomfort

  • Noise from students and equipment can be excessive

  • Work involves sustained standing and frequent lifting

  • Must meet physical requirements
