The Prep Cook works directly for the Executive Chef and is responsible for assisting with the ingredient preparation for the menus being planned and served in the RJHS cafeterias and for special occasion events. This position is 40 hours per week when students are present (during the school year) with extra hours for special events.

Essential Job Functions (Responsibilities)

Responsible for all food preparation, including but not limited to soups, sauces, vegetables, meats, and pasta dishes

Complete opening and closing checklist in timely manner, refer to daily checklist at the start of each shift

Comply consistently with standard portions, cooking methods, quality standards, and kitchen rules

Promptly report equipment and food storage problem to the Executive Chef

Use standard and prescribed recipes for preparing products

Maintain a clean and sanitary work station

Perform other related duties as assigned by chef

Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills with co-workers

Function as a supportive team member during the course of their shift
Requirements:
-
Reliably attends work as scheduled.

Operate in a safe and responsible manner

Adheres to Federal, State and Health regulations
-
Cooks food to prescribed time and temperature requirements

Must be able to work quickly and efficiently, to properly support cooking schedules

Works cooperatively with other people having ability to work under pressure

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but univolved written and oral instructions.

Observes all school policies and procedures
Education & Skills:
-
Prefer Culinary Arts Degree or equivalent experience
-
3 years’ previous prep cooking experience
-
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to compute and extrapolate recipe quantities
Physical requirements:
-
Work involves sustained standing, lifting, and carrying of moderately heavy items up to 50 lbs.
Working conditions:
-
Work is in a school kitchen environment. Temperatures from hot ovens, steamers can cause discomfort
-
Noise from students and equipment can be excessive
-
Work involves sustained standing and frequent lifting
-
Must meet physical requirements
